Twenty participants from Marbel Diocese, Digos Diocese and Columbio Parish met at the Bishop’s Residence, Koronadal City on 11 December 2010.
Aims:
1. Have a common understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of open-pit mining;
2. Take a unified stand on open-pit mining;
3. Identify points of convergence;
4. Agree on a possible common course of action;
5. Design a structure of cooperation.
Some favor mining because of benefits, actual and potential. Others are against because of actual harassment and probable damages to properties and human lives.
Stand and points of convergence will be decided after thorough education.
Courses of action: massive information/education; dialogue with LGUs, AFP, PNP; sharing of experiences and relevant materials; and vigilance and prudence.
Structure. MADICO composed of Diocesan Social Action Centers; Bishops; Parish Priests of Banate, Kiblawan, Malalag (Digos), Malungon, Tampakan (Marbel) and Columbio.
Meetings: monthly, 2nd Thursday, 9am. Venues: revolving to start on January 13, Columbio Parish.
